June 26th: Bear Down Passing Tournament

June 26th: Bear Down Passing  Tournament:

It was a long day but a good day for the Bulldogs. The objective of these tournaments are to work our systems and allow the kids to get valuable REPS in the system. We also try to play alot of kids to evaluate them.

It is not "real" football by no means. It gives the skilled players a chance to learn passing route recognition, passing coverage skills, route running, and QB timing and throwing. Winning is fun, but not our total team goal at these.

Running Backs are not used much and obviously the lineman are not involved which is where games are won and lost on the line of scrimmage. Most teams that played us today have had 10-14 games under their belt. Many school are getting out for summer break much earlier than us. I liked our kids competitiveness and effort today. We were a little sleepy and sluggish after playing 3 tight games in the morning and after lunch.

Many teams install or only play passing league offenses and defenses. Here at Ramona we will not alter what we do...we will work our system so that the kids can learn our concepts and mentally be ready for August training camp.

We have great kids with great support. I could not ask for a better group of players working to 'learn" and working to "become a family"! Thanks also to the coaching staff for all their time and many many preparation hours organizing our incredible amount of kids for a small school. Bulldog Family is alive and the program is so excited for our season.  We have alot of work to do...that is the challenge and what makes it fun. Stay tuned for the next Log from the Coaches Corner....
